Technical Program Manager, IT Project Manager Nataliya Oblovatska said that she had experience of interviewing with an AI recruiter.

«This is crazy… I just had my first interview for the position of Technical Project Manager, which was supposed to be a regular recruitment interview. But instead of a live person, an artificial intelligence talked to me for an hour,» she said .

According to Natalia, it was not some «easy introductory meeting.» «For an hour, I answered a series of questions without the opportunity to ask a counter-question, get feedback or reaction, understand how and where my answers were stored, or who would review them. And most importantly, they didn’t even explain to me whether there would be any feedback, how exactly the assessment was carried out, or whether it was a real interview at all, and not part of testing the model,» the specialist said.

Natalia notes that after the interview, she felt as if she was simply being used to train AI or collect answers.

«I’m not against new technologies in recruitment, but transparency, respect for the candidate’s time, and basic ethics should remain at the forefront.»
«A candidate is not just a source of answers for models, but a specialist looking for interaction, opportunities, and normal communication,» she explains her position.

In the comments to Natalia’s post, IT professionals share similar experiences and react violently to the case.

Senior DevOps Engineer Oleg Kazantsev notes: «There is also the question of how the collected data is used, by whom it is used, how it will be used in the future. Because they can then use your personal data, including, for example, your „Avatar“ to conduct interviews in the future. Especially if no one warned anyone. There have already been cases when other people’s deepfakes were hosted in China by their local Youtube channels. Therefore, it is completely unclear here? Where will it go next? An agreement should have been signed regarding the use of certain data,» he says.

According to Oleg, given the development of AI and the popularization of 18+ content, including AI-generated content, there is no guarantee that it will not have other negative consequences. «Therefore, for now it looks like maximum fraud to collect your data…», the specialist summarizes.

Project Manager Vladyslav Kondratyuk advises: «Maybe you should have said, like with the AI ​​assistant in banks, «connect me to the operator»?» And in general, I’m delighted with your stress resistance. I would quote Les Poderviansky and disconnect! You did a great job!».

And according to Solution Architect Roman Shopin, it was necessary to connect your AI agent, even if they were communicating.

System Administrator Ivan Bilous believes that it’s time to add something like «I do not participate in interviews with AI» to your resume, or create/buy such an AI for yourself, and let them talk to you. «Well, in general: AI in interviews is nonsense. In my opinion, if AI conducts interviews instead of recruiters, then this is a question of the recruiter’s qualifications,» he notes.

Developer Stepan Poperechny asked the candidate why she simply didn’t end the call, realizing that she wasn’t talking to a human. «I’m also asking myself this question, I wanted to understand what it was all about, because this is the first time I’ve encountered this, next time I’ll either disconnect or connect an AI agent to the meeting, perhaps trained on my CV, I’ve just started studying this issue,» Natalia replied.
