This initiative will allow customers to establish private high-speed connections between the two companies' computing platforms in minutes instead of weeks, writes Reuters.
According to an announcement from the two cloud providers, the new offering combines AWS's Interconnect–multicloud with Google Cloud's Cross-Cloud Interconnect to improve network interoperability.
“This collaboration between AWS and Google Cloud marks a fundamental shift in the approach to multi-cloud connectivity,” commented Robert Kennedy, vice president of AWS Network Services.
Rob Enns, vice president and general manager of cloud networking at Google Cloud, said the goal of the shared network is to make the process of moving data and applications between clouds easier for customers.
Salesforce is one of the early adopters of the new approach, Google Cloud said in a statement.
The new service comes just over a month after the Amazon Web Services outage on Oct. 20 that disrupted thousands of websites around the world, taking down some of the most popular internet apps, including Snapchat and Reddit. The outage is expected to cost US companies between $500 million and $650 million, according to analytics firm Parametrix.
AWS provides computing power, data storage, and other digital services to companies, governments, and individuals and is the world's largest cloud provider, followed by Microsoft's Azure and Google Cloud.
