According to GeekWire , Meta did not warn Amazon that Muse would be accessing its marketplace. The tech giant also raised privacy and security concerns because the AI did not identify itself while browsing products and likely intercepted user credentials.
“We believe it is clear that third-party applications that offer to make purchases on behalf of customers at other businesses should operate openly and respect the decisions of service providers regarding their participation in such programs,” an anonymous Amazon representative said in a comment to GeekWire.
When Meta launched Muse earlier this month, the company insisted that the AI agent had no access to secure logins or payment card data. However, since its launch, a number of privacy concerns have arisen, including reports that Muse could see the content of users' messages even if they hadn't been given permission to do so.
This move is another attempt by Amazon to curb competition from third-party AI-based services and maintain direct interaction with buyers. Recall that in November last year , Amazon filed a lawsuit against Perplexity , trying to block the platform's access to the Comet shopping service, but in August the court sided with Perplexity in this case.
