American artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has raised $65 billion in its latest funding round. The deal values the company at $965 billion. The round is likely to be the last private equity round for the Claude chatbot developer before going public.
American artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has raised $65 billion in its latest funding round. The deal values the company at $965 billion. The round is likely to be the last private equity round for the Claude chatbot developer before going public.
As TechCrunch reports, investors have been actively competing for the right to enter the developer’s equity. In particular, one large institutional fund was ready to allocate $5 billion just for the opportunity to have a personal meeting with Anthropic’s CFO Krishna Rao.
The Series H round was co-led by renowned venture capital firms Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Capital Group, Coatue and D1 Capital Partners. They were also joined by large institutional players, including Baillie Gifford, Blackstone, Brookfield, DE Shaw Ventures, DST Global and Fidelity. Technology giants Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron acted as strategic infrastructure partners in the round. Of the total, $15 billion is a fulfillment of previously announced commitments, including $5 billion from Amazon, which was announced in April.
Anthropic will use the funds to conduct deep research into the security and interpretability of AI. The company also plans to significantly increase its computing power to meet the demand of corporate clients and scale its ecosystem of products and partnerships.
In parallel with the closing of the round, the company released a new model, Claude Opus 4.8. The developers say that it performs better on autonomous agent tasks, shows progress in writing code, and focuses on self-correction. In addition, the startup plans to expand access to tools based on its powerful cybersecurity model called Mythos, which was previously limited due to potential abuse threats.
