Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports that the new design was inspired by visionOS, the operating system used in the Vision Pro headset, which has a “fresher” look compared to current versions of iOS and macOS. The main goal of the redesign is to create visual unity between devices, especially between iPad and Mac, as well as extend this experience to Apple TV and Apple Watch.
It was previously reported that the redesign would only affect three platforms, but now it has been confirmed that the changes will affect the entire Apple ecosystem. VisionOS will only receive point updates - taking into account the specifics of using the headset.
The update is already being compared to the iOS 7 redesign in 2013 — but this time the changes will be felt across all Apple devices at once. According to Gurman, the update, codenamed Solarium, will be announced at this year’s WWDC 2025 conference, which will take place from June 9 to 13 this year.
