A new productivity app has appeared on the App Store — Iky Task, which turns a to-do list into a game with a virtual character.
Developed by indie developer Ivan Tsokol, the app combines a classic task manager with gamification mechanics — including a «virtual friend» that responds to the user’s productivity.
The key idea is emotional feedback. If the user completes tasks, the character becomes happy, and if they ignore them, they become «sad.» Thus, the application tries to motivate not through reminders, but through attachment to the digital companion.
The idea for the product came from the developer’s personal experience. According to him, in early 2025, he was going through a difficult period and noticed that he was constantly putting off routine tasks. His own dog was the inspiration: the animal «rejoiced» even in simple actions — going to the store or to the post office.
«And then the idea was born: why not have an app that someone else would enjoy?» explains the developer.
In the application itself, in addition to the basic task manager functions (lists, deadlines, priorities), there are several additional mechanics:
The developer also adds small interactive details. For example, the app has an Easter egg that can be found by clicking on the main character.
The author himself admits that the product is still in the development process: «There is still work to be done, but I can’t be happy.»
Separately, he notes that the team is gradually adding Ukrainian localization.
The application is free, but has a subscription with advanced features.
In fact, Iky Task is another example of the «emotional productivity» trend, where instead of dry to-do lists, the user is offered interaction with a character and a gaming experience.
