He predicts that AI will soon change the battlefield, and «robotic dogs with machine guns on their backs» will no longer seem like science fiction.
Yaroslav Azhnyuk, founder of PetCube and miltech startups TheFourthLaw and Odd Systems, has called the emergence of artificial intelligence «the most remarkable technology» humanity has ever created. He predicts that AI will soon change the battlefield, and «robotic dogs with machine guns on their backs» will no longer seem like science fiction.
Yaroslav Azhnyuk spoke about this in an interview on the YouTube channel «OPORA Speaks».
«This is the most outstanding, most powerful technology that humanity has created in its entire existence. It is probably a more important phenomenon than the emergence of electricity and mass power grids. And we are now living in an era when these technologies have just begun to develop. And artificial intelligence technology will have a direct impact on two extremely important military technologies», — said the Ukrainian entrepreneur.
According to him, these technologies are fully autonomous robotic systems and autonomous drones and the use of artificial intelligence for information warfare. Azhnyuk believes that they have a huge impact, comparable to the use of atomic energy for peaceful and military purposes.
The founder of TheFourthLaw and Odd Systems noted that thanks to AI, a fully autonomous drone will be a weapon similar to a grenade or small arms that every fighter, both Ukrainian and Russian, can have.
«If now it takes an average of 10 drones to hit enemy equipment, this figure can be reduced to two drones thanks to autonomy, computer vision systems and other technologies. This also applies to defensive tactics: we will be able to have interceptor drones that will destroy enemy shaheds, reconnaissance drones, FPV drones, including autonomous strike drones. But the enemy will be able to do the same if he has such technology,» explains Azhnyuk.
According to the entrepreneur, this could lead to the emergence of drone-carrying platforms — land, air, and sea — that would launch dozens of drones. Those, in turn, would encounter swarms of autonomous interceptor drones. He does not rule out the appearance of drones over Kyiv or Moscow that «autonomously hunt moving targets based on certain characteristics».
«All this is not fantasy. This is what awaits us over the next 6–12 months. This is a very close reality. And it will have an incredible impact on the battlefield. Just as in 2022–2024, FPV drones appeared and scaled up as a means. If in 2022 artillery made 80% of all hits, now 60–80% of hits are made by FPV drones. This is an incredibly rapid change», — Yaroslav Azhnyuk points out.
He predicts «even greater changes» with the introduction of AI into robotic systems.
«Maybe even robodogs with machine guns on their backs that run across the battlefield and are controlled by AI — not just computer vision, but generative models that determine their behavior,» Azhnyuk said.
