“I see a disturbing picture: we are paying with blood for data that someone else can convert into capitalization.” Military blogger questions what cooperation with Palantir gives Ukraine
Military and popular blogger Valeriy Marcus questioned the benefits that Ukraine supposedly receives from cooperation with Palantir.
He called the data sets on the Russian-Ukrainian war that our military institutions have «Ukraine’s main international capital,» and does not understand what specific benefits Ukraine receives if it shares this data with Palantir.
«Ukraine has something that no other country in the world has: data obtained in real war conditions. Not training grounds. Not simulations. Not headquarters scenarios with PowerPoint. But real war, real targets, real results of strikes, drone telemetry, satellite images with a link to combat operations. Data on the effectiveness of decisions, weapons, tactics and technologies in real war conditions. This is a unique array of data. Its value is measured not only in money. It is measured by international influence, technological advantage, future defense solutions and Ukraine’s place in the global security architecture,» Marcus expressed his opinion.
He considers such data «a strategic asset that Ukraine can use in relations with partners: in exchange for technology, investments, defense solutions, political support, and geopolitical guarantees.»
At the same time, from public communication on this topic, as Marcus says, it was clear that «Ukraine provided Palantir with access to our unique data,» but it is not clear what «Ukraine gets in return.»
«Judging by what was published, we are talking about free access to the services of this company. But I could be wrong here, because I don’t have all the information. And so I’m trying to understand: are we transferring this array — one of our key strategic assets — simply for the right to use their program? Free of charge? Without a contract with specific figures? Without public conditions? Without a clear answer, who now has the rights to this data?» Valeriy Markus asked a series of rhetorical questions.
He expressed concern about whether Ukraine had given away a «strategic asset» for next to nothing.
«Because so far I see a disturbing picture: we are paying with blood for data that someone else can convert into capitalization, international influence, and big money,» the military man concluded.
