Telegram has banned copying in private chats: what else is new in the messenger

Member tags

Group chat participants can add tags to their name to show their role at work, major at university, etc. This will help introduce themselves in chats or highlight their interests in online communities.

Admins can choose whether group members can set tags themselves, or only admins can. Member tags for group admins will always be highlighted in a different color to clearly indicate their roles.

To allow members to set their own tags in the group, you need to go to Group Settings > Permissions and enable “Change your tag.”

Ban on copying in private chats

Users can now disable copying in any private chat. This option restricts message forwarding and prevents screenshots or saving media from the chat.

To prevent copying in a chat, you need to open the user's profile, tap ⋯ or ⋮, and select "Prohibit copying."

This feature is currently available to Telegram Premium users.

GIF captions

When you select a GIF in the GIF panel, you can now add a caption to it and send it all in one message. As with other media types, you can place the caption above or below the GIF.

To add a caption, press and hold the GIF in the panel and select Add Caption.

Instant photo stickers

Now you can turn photos into stickers with just one tap. These stickers can be edited to cut out objects, add text or emojis, and more before sending.

You can save the created stickers to your favorites or add them to sticker sets.

GIF and sticker editing

GIFs and stickers from the panel can now be edited in Telegram's media editor to add text, images, and emojis, as well as trim GIFs and change their length.

To edit a GIF or sticker in the panel, press and hold, then select Edit.

Timestamps for surveys

Polls with visible votes now show a timestamp for each user who voted, so participants can see when each vote was cast.

Threaded responses for bots

Now every bot in Telegram will be able to enable translating text while forming a response and offering beautiful scrolling responses.

Login via Telegram

Now you can use your Telegram account to register and log in to apps and websites in just a few taps — without filling out forms or creating passwords.

You can share your phone number to avoid additional verification steps. You can also allow services send messages to Telegram to receive convenient notifications.

Time and date formatting

Added a new Date formatting option to conveniently send a specific date and time in a message. Recipients can tap it to add the event to their calendar or set a quick reminder.

Date formatting automatically adapts to each recipient's local date and time.

Bot messages can also use dynamic time variables to provide users with the exact date and time in the message, based on their time zone.
