Bitcoin is no longer "digital gold": the market votes with money. Why is the most popular coin getting cheaper and is it worth waiting for BTC to rise in price?

The most popular digital currency has already managed to drop in price below $75,000 per coin and regain some ground.

Why is BTC falling?

One of the key reasons for the decline in BTC’s price is changes in global financial markets. For example, changes in expectations about US monetary policy and potentially tighter financing conditions affect investors’ inclination towards riskier assets such as cryptocurrencies. Analysts note that during periods of uncertainty, market participants move to safer assets, such as gold or bonds, which puts pressure on BTC.

The drop below important technical levels, particularly around $80,000, has attracted the attention of market participants, who are taking profits or reducing positions. The result is a domino effect, where selling triggers further declines. This behavior is amplified in a narrow market with low liquidity, which easily «swings» quotes.

In addition, institutional investors and large funds, including those linked to Bitcoin ETFs, have seen outflows in recent weeks, which is also weighing on BTC. The withdrawal of capital from these funds expands the supply in the market, causing the price to decline.

And another important fact — Bitcoin does not live in isolation — the fall today is observed simultaneously with the sale of other assets: stocks, gold, and even energy carriers sometimes react to the same macro shocks. Such synchronization is typical for markets with high correlation during periods of stress.

Thus, Bitcoin is losing its status as «digital gold» — during times of market stress, BTC has shown a weaker protective effect than traditional assets.

What to expect next?

In the context of BTC’s longer history, the recent decline can be seen as part of a cyclical correction after the long rally of 2024–2025. After record highs in over $120,000, which was observed in October 2025, Bitcoin entered a decline phase, which has already removed more than 30% of the capitalization from the peak.

There is no consensus in the market regarding an imminent reversal. Some traders and analysts note the potential for further correction below key supports, for example, in the $70,000–$60,000 area, if liquidity pressure and negative sentiment persist.

Certain scenarios from analysts and market models suggest that current levels may be a local bottom from which BTC will bounce off. But such a scenario strongly depends on the development of the economic situation in the world, changes in monetary policy and the return of investors' interest in risky assets.

Despite the decline, some investors view the current levels as an opportunity to accumulate positions, while others remain technically pessimistic. This is typical of correction phases, when some traders have short-term fear, and long-term BTC supporters hold positions, waiting for stabilization.
