BlaBlaCar intends to add a train ticket sales service to its service.
This was stated by Roman Miroshnychenko, CEO of BlaBlaCar in Central and Eastern Europe, in an interview with Forbes.
«We need to test the model to assess its effectiveness. Based on the results, we can adjust the launch format after a deeper market analysis. We want to launch the direction in test mode next year,» he explained.
According to Miroshnychenko, BlaBlaCar intends to become a partner of Ukrzaliznytsia, and is also focusing on other markets where rail transportation has been liberalized.
«This happened a long time ago in Germany and Poland. For comparison: in 2025, about 28 million passengers used the railway in Ukraine, and over 400 million in Poland. The population of the countries is approximately the same. This is a good example of what can happen when the railway market opens up. We see a long-term perspective here: on the horizon of 5-10 years, the railway definitely has great potential,» added the BlaBlaCar representative.
Currently, according to him, the company is conducting research to make a final decision.
BlaBlaCar’s earnings in the railway ticket sales segment, according to Miroshnychenko, may consist of a commission or a markup.
In addition, according to him, more than 20 new features are planned to be launched this year.
«They have different weights: some are key and noticeable to users, others are technical. We have already launched multi-publication of shared trips and the ability for passengers to negotiate a price with the driver if they need to slightly change the pick-up or drop-off point. Next, we plan to add GPS tracking. This will be convenient for the passenger, because he will be able to see where the driver is, assess possible delays, and plan when to leave the house to meet him,» the top manager shared.
According to Roman Miroshnychenko, in the near future the company will also test new payment methods and functions that will expand the possibilities of booking bus tickets.
As dev.ua reported, BlaBlaCar is making its largest expansion in 10 years with the help of AI: the company is entering the markets of 20 countries.
It is also known that BlaBlaCar is integrating conversational ride search into ChatGPT.
