Ukrainian company BlueBird Tech has announced the launch of mass production of the Chipa sitcomet, a compact system for intercepting FPV drones at close range. The company will produce over 500 sitcomets per month for the needs of the Defense Forces, journalists, volunteers, critical infrastructure operators, and civilians who need additional protection from drones.
How does Chipa work?
The Sitcomet is made in the form factor of a pistol and is effective at a distance of up to 25 meters. After pulling the trigger, the pyro cartridge throws out a net that unfolds in a space of 3×3 meters in 0.2 seconds and entangles the drone’s propellers, depriving it of the ability to attack the target.
Unlike small arms, the net launcher does not require high accuracy of hitting a specific point — the large area of the net opening covers a much larger space during the drone’s approach, which increases the chances of interception. At the same time, the «Chipa» does not unmask the user’s position during the shot and minimizes the risk of secondary damage, typical of small arms.
The company emphasizes that the sitcom is a last-line defense tool, used when the FPV drone has already entered an attacking trajectory and there is almost no time left for other countermeasures. Preparation for use takes a matter of seconds: pull the safety, aim, and pull the trigger.
Why now?
BlueBird Tech explains the decision to scale up production by saying that the threat from FPV drones is increasingly affecting not only the military — the enemy is attacking logistics, civilian infrastructure, journalists, and volunteers near the front line. The company developed and refined the «Chipa» in close cooperation with the military, drawing on real combat experience.
