Back in 2016, the case materials state, the defendant imported a BMW 318 with Lithuanian license plates into the territory of Ukraine in transit.
According to the rules, such cars can be kept in the country for a maximum of 5–10 days, depending on the route. But the man didn’t just overstay this deadline. He exceeded it by more than 30 days. In fact, it’s about years.
When in 2026 he tried to leave Ukraine through the Kosyno checkpoint, customs officers checked the databases and discovered that the same BMW was still officially «hanging» in transit.
The man himself did not deny that he imported the car. But he could not explain where it is now. According to him, the location of the car is unknown to him. He also did not submit any applications to customs or documents about force majeure.
The court considered the case without his participation — the man did not appear at the hearing, although he was notified. As a result, the court found him guilty of violating customs rules. This is about exceeding the transit period by more than 30 days — this is one of the most severe categories of such violations.
As punishment, the court ordered the confiscation of the car. If it is actually impossible to seize it (which seems quite likely, given the «disappearance»), the man must pay its value — over 76,000 UAH, which is equivalent to the car’s value of 1,500 euros at the current exchange rate.
Separately, a court fee of UAH 665.60 will be charged from him.
The decision can be appealed to the Transcarpathian Court of Appeal within 10 days.
