Messages on Telegram about "borrowing money because my card is blocked" have reached a new level. Scammers have now started using artificial intelligence to create audio and video to convince people of the authenticity of the message. A woman from the Rivne district fell on this hook.
As the woman told the police, she corresponded with her close friend: everything was as usual in communication - her language and emoticons were characteristic of her.
Then came a message asking to borrow money in audio, followed by a video confirmation that it was her.
Since the friend is engaged in volunteering, the resident of the Rivne district did not have any questions about what she needed money for. Therefore, she transferred UAH 4,000.
The fraudsters wanted even more money and asked again, then the woman thought to call her friend. Of course, it turned out that no one asked for anything. And then the woman realized that she had fallen on the hook of fraudsters.
Fraudsters use social media accounts to create convincing deepfakes. Therefore, the fraudsters become more convincing in their actions, and the victim has no doubts.
In such cases, it is better to immediately call the person asking for money, or you can ask for information that only the two of you know.
