The company plans to release GPT-4.5, internally codenamed Orion , which will be “OpenAI’s final model without a chain of thought,” Altman told X.
OPENAI ROADMAP UPDATE FOR GPT-4.5 and GPT-5:
We want to do a better job of sharing our intended roadmap, and a much better job of simplifying our product offerings.
We want AI to "just work" for you; we realize how complicated our model and product offerings have gotten.
After GPT 4.5, the company plans to combine the o-series and GPT models into a single system that can use all tools and adapt to any tasks.
OpenAI also plans to release GPT-5 as a system that integrates many of the company's technologies, including o3. In addition, o3 will no longer be sold as a standalone model.
When GPT-5 becomes available, free ChatGPT users will get unlimited access to chat with standard settings. Plus and Pro subscribers will be able to use GPT-5 at a higher level of intelligence.
Altman did not say when exactly GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 might be released, other than that they could appear within a few weeks or months.
