OpenAI launches medical AI ChatGPT Health, which can be connected to health apps
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a feature that will allow users to connect medical records and health apps to the ChatGPT chatbot to receive more personalized answers to questions about their health.
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a feature that will allow users to connect medical records and health apps to the ChatGPT chatbot to receive more personalized answers to questions about their health.
«Today, health information is often scattered across portals, apps, wearables, PDFs, and medical records, making it difficult to see the full picture and leaving people to navigate the complex healthcare system on their own. People have shared countless stories about how they turned to ChatGPT to make sense of it all,» OpenAI said in an announcement.
According to the company, health is one of the most popular topics among ChatGPT users — over 230 million people worldwide ask the chatbot questions related to health and well-being every week.
Now they can connect medical records and health apps like Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal so ChatGPT can help understand the latest test results, prepare for doctor visits, and get diet and exercise advice.
The company noted that additional privacy measures will be in place for this separate space in ChatGPT, and said it will not use conversations taking place in Health to train underlying models.
ChatGPT Health is currently in beta, and there are some regional restrictions on which health apps can connect to OpenAI’s platform. Users who want to try the new feature can sign up for a waitlist. Once you’re granted access, ChatGPT Health will appear in the left-hand menu.
OpenAI’s announcement acknowledges that this new development is «not intended for diagnosis or treatment» because no part of ChatGPT or any other AI chatbot is authorized to provide any medical advice. The AI models are still capable of making dangerously false claims that could harm the user.
In a previous case, a 60-year-old man who wanted to reduce the amount of salt in his diet asked ChatGPT for nutritional advice. The diet he created based on information from AI led to auditory and visual hallucinations.
