OpenAI has announced the removal of text chat restrictions for all ChatGPT users. The update also brings changes to Plus and Pro plans.
This functionality will work on the basis of the new GPT-5.6 Luna model, which will become the base for Free and Go tariff users, replacing GPT-5.5, writes TechCrunch.
Users of both plans will also receive a new Think button, which will allow them to use higher computing power for complex questions.
However, certain limits for working with files, images, voice mode, and image generation will remain.
Additionally, Plus and Pro plan users will have access to the improved GPT-5.6 Sol model, which is better suited for fast tasks such as answering questions, searching the web, providing advice, planning, writing texts, and making decisions.
The company said that this new model will provide more concise and accurate answers. Specifically, it is a separate version of GPT-5.6 Sol, which is used for Codex and Work, and it remains unchanged.
ChatGPT Plus and Pro users will also get a reasoning slider that will allow them to adjust how “deeply” the model thinks about an answer. They will be able to adjust this setting based on the complexity of the task and the number of steps required to solve it.
OpenAI said that according to internal evaluation, compared to GPT-5.5-Instant, actual errors occur 62% less frequently in GPT-5.6 Luna and 68% less frequently in GPT-5.6 Sol.
The updated GPT-5.6 Sol is now available for Plus and Pro users, while other changes for Free and Go plans will be rolling out this week. Next week, users will get access to unlimited text chats and a new Think button for more complex questions.
