ChatGPT Search was launched in October as an extension of OpenAI’s SearchGPT prototype. Powered by a refined version of OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, ChatGPT Search pulls up information from the internet — sports scores, news, stock quotes, and more — along with links to relevant sources, after which users can ask additional questions to refine their search.
ChatGPT search was originally only available to ChatGPT premium subscribers. Now, non-paying users can also access it.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Search has become “faster” and can now be set as the default search engine for any web browser, writes TechCrunch.
Additionally, ChatGPT Search for mobile has been improved. On mobile devices, users can now see, for example, better organized business information, including addresses (in Apple Maps in the iOS ChatGPT app) and phone numbers.
ChatGPT Search is also available in enhanced voice mode, ChatGPT's real-time conversational feature. In the coming days, users will be able to access up-to-date web information using enhanced voice mode on mobile or desktop.
