In Zaporizhia, a man is suspected of stealing Bitcoin and Ethereum worth over UAH 3.5 million.
In Zaporizhia, a man is suspected of stealing Bitcoin and Ethereum worth over UAH 3.5 million.
The suspect helped his friend create a cold crypto wallet and memorized the generated seed phrase to access it, the Zaporizhia Regional Prosecutor's Office reports .
He later restored the wallet using a phrase he knew and gained full control over the owner's assets. This allowed him to freely acquire over UAH 3.5 million worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum cryptocurrencies.
He has currently been charged with suspicion of misappropriation of virtual assets and unauthorized interference with the operation of an automated system (Part 5 of Article 185, Part 5 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.
Thanks to the measures taken by the prosecutor's office and the police, the victim was compensated for the damages caused.
