The study, conducted by technology startups Ramp and Revelio Labs, tracked employee data from 22,000 U.S. companies along with their corporate spending on AI between January 2021 and February 2026. The results showed that companies that were most active in implementing artificial intelligence tended to increase their staff after deploying the technology, Business Insider reports .
But it’s worth noting that the companies that invest the most in AI tend to be larger, more venture-backed, and growing faster. And much of the hiring growth has been in the information sector, which includes internet companies, media, and technology-related industries.
Despite this, the results of the study may cast doubt on the idea that artificial intelligence is the root cause of mass layoffs.
The study found that companies with high levels of AI adoption (those that spend about $34 per month per employee) saw an increase in headcount of about 10.2% in the two years after integrating the technology. Entry-level hiring increased by 12% during that period.
This growth was uneven across industries, with the most growth seen in software development, internet, media, and technology-related companies. However, the positive trend spanned a variety of job categories, including engineering, sales, administration, and customer support.
The authors concluded the study with advice for young job seekers.
“If you are a young person just entering the job market and choosing between companies with similar conditions, choose the one that is already using AI,” they noted.
