Anthropic has integrated its chatbot Claude with Google Workspace: it can now read Gmail
Anthropic announced that it has integrated its chatbot Claude with Google Workspace. It can search for and link to emails in Gmail, events in Google Calendar, and documents in Google Docs.
Anthropic announced that it has integrated its chatbot Claude with Google Workspace. It can search for and link to emails in Gmail, events in Google Calendar, and documents in Google Docs.
The integration will initially launch in beta for Anthropic’s Max, Team, Enterprise, and Pro subscribers. Admins who manage multi-user accounts will first need to enable the integration on their end before users can connect their Google Workspace and Claude accounts, TechCrunch reports .
Google DeepMind's Gemini chatbot also integrates with Workspace , and OpenAI's ChatGPT integrates with Google Drive. However, Anthropic is one of the first third-party AI companies to offer a way to connect closely with Google's suite of products.
Anthropic's collaboration with Google gives Claude more personalized answers without requiring users to re-upload files or create detailed prompts.
The company says the new integration can help users organize their professional and personal lives. For example, parents will be able to scan emails and calendar events to highlight important things, as well as search the web for updated school calendars, local community events, and weather forecasts that may affect family plans.
Claude will provide inline citations when referencing Workspace content, and will show where exactly certain information comes from.
Users may have questions about security, to which the company explained the following:
"Each user or organization's connections to external services (such as Google Drive, Gmail, etc.) are properly authenticated and authorized only for that specific user or organization. Claude has no ability to access or transfer data between connected services of different users, as each connection is tied to the specific credentials of that individual user or organization."
Anthropic is also launching a new feature called Claude Research , which performs multiple web searches to produce detailed answers. Positioned as a competitor to OpenAI and Google’s “deep search” agents, Claude Research offers an “optimal compromise” between speed and comprehensiveness.
According to an Anthropic spokesperson, Claude Research typically collects information in less than a minute — faster than some competing deep research agents. However, Claude Research does not use a custom model, instead leveraging Claude’s recently launched web search capabilities.
The company is initially rolling out Claude Research to Max, Team, and Enterprise users in the United States, Japan, and Brazil. Anthropic says the feature will soon be available to Pro customers.
