Cluely, a startup that helps users cheat on interviews, exams, and dates, has raised $15 million in a Series A investment. What is the valuation of the «cheating» startup?
According to TechCrunch, two investors who were not involved in the deal believe that Cluely’s valuation after this funding is around $120 million. Andreessen Horowitz (known as a16z), who led the round,
declined to comment on this figure.
Cluely managed to secure new investment about two months after the company raised $5.3 million in seed funding co-led by Abstract Ventures and Susa Ventures.
The startup was founded earlier this year by 21-year-old Chung-in «Roy» Lee and Neil Shanmugam, who were expelled from Columbia University for developing a stealthy AI tool called «Interview Coder» that helped engineers cheat in technical interviews.
Lee previously reported that Cluely is already a profitable company. The co-founder’s provocative marketing campaign and social media behavior have helped attract attention and build brand awareness for Cluely.
Earlier this week, Cluely was planning a big party after a two-day Y Combinator’s AI Startup School event. But police shut down the party after about 2,000 people tried to enter the venue, Roy Lee said. «We cleaned up a bit, but the drinks are still there, waiting for the next party,» he said.
Lee previously said that everyone uses AI to cheat in interviews, and that doesn’t mean they’re cheating. It’s just «how people will act and think in the future,» says the Cluely co-founder.
Recall that in May, the Ukrainian ML&AI/SaaS company Object Control won the Challenger Accelerator AI 3.0 competition and received a $25,000 grant from the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund and $25,000 in AWS cloud credits from the Ukrainian Startup Fund.
Object Control develops fraud prevention algorithms that allow anti-fraud tools to be embedded into various products (sales and service) of financial and other companies.
