Junior Data Analyst and online store owner Mariia Pantiukh developed an automation system for updating the product catalog on the Prom.ua platform. Without deep experience in developing such scripts, she created a full-fledged Python solution using Claude artificial intelligence, saving money on supporting external contractors.
As Mariia Pantiukh told on LinkedIn, she is the owner of an online store on the Prom platform and for several years she has had a problem with downloading products in XML format from different suppliers, as well as updating their availability, price and quantity according to the input data. At first, she found specialists who wrote a program to solve the technical side of this issue and charged UAH 500 per month for their services. However, later the contractors asked for UAH 2,500 per month for supporting the work, adjusting the number of supplier links, prices and generally for making any changes to the process.
The rapid increase in the cost of maintenance pushed her to look for alternative ways.
"My patience ran out. And with Claude’s help, I wrote automation for the online store in a week. Of course, it didn’t work right away, we spent a couple of days figuring out what needed to be fixed. But in the end, I got a perfect free solution. And I also saved a lot of money!" — adds Maria.
The created Automated Python pipeline is a completely autonomous solution for synchronizing the assortment from multiple XML sources of suppliers directly to the store on Prom.ua.
The system works via GitHub Actions without any manual intervention. It receives new XML files daily, finds matches, generates an up-to-date summary file, and transfers it to Prom.ua.
By using permanent internal Prom identifiers (product IDs), the program updates only prices and balances. Unique product names, descriptions, translations, and features remain intact, preventing duplicates or accidental overwriting of data.
The store automatically maintains up-to-date prices and availability, minimizing the risk of selling out-of-stock items or losses due to outdated pricing.
