"I would like Uklon to buy Uber for $200 million, and I myself was worth $200 billion". Azhnyuk told why he was upset by the sale of Uklon
The founder of PetCube and miltech startups TheFourthLaw and Odd Systems, Yaroslav Azhnyuk, commented on the sale of the ride-hailing service Uklon to Kyivstar.
The founder of PetCube and miltech startups TheFourthLaw and Odd Systems, Yaroslav Azhnyuk, commented on the sale of the ride-hailing service Uklon to Kyivstar.
Azhnyuk spoke about this in a podcast on the YouTube channel «UT-2». He called the deal to sell Uklon a «cool story» and noted that a number of people in the company, not counting the founders, became «very wealthy» thanks to this.
«On the other hand, at this time Uber is worth $200 billion. And I am sad about this, because I would like it to be the other way around — for Uklon to buy Uber for $200 million, and itself to be worth $200 billion», — Yaroslav Azhnyuk noted.
He added that Ukrainian companies must play on the global stage.
«The same Bolt — why did the Estonians manage to build Bolt, but the Ukrainians did not? Here, of course, there is a question of access to capital markets. The founders of Uklon can answer this. And this is in no way a reproach to them. This is rather a message to future and present generations: now we have a huge opportunity with the entire defense industry», — the entrepreneur explained.
Azhnyuk added that he wouldn’t want Ukrainian miltech companies in 10 years to look at American companies like Anduril the way they look at Uber and Bolt now. He urged them to work on becoming «Ubers» themselves.
«This is our ‘baby’ that we have been working on for 15 years. We didn’t want to sell it for nothing,» — Uklon co-founders about the $155.2 million deal with Kyivstar
Azhnyuk: «Over the past 2.5 years, private international investors have invested $20 million in Ukrainian defense-tech, and a total of $25 million has been invested in cat-repellent lasers (Petcube)»
