Reuters recalls that Zoox is currently conducting tests in various US cities using more than 20 vehicles, and plans to launch commercial robotaxi services in Las Vegas this year.
«Additional market entries in the coming years justify this increase in robotaxi production,» Zoox said in a statement.
The plant in Hayward, California, can assemble more than 10,000 vehicles per year when at full capacity, although Zoox does not disclose initial production goals.
«A commercial launch would put Zoox on par with Waymo, which has been operating self-driving taxis for years and is expanding across the country, and Elon Musk’s Tesla, which plans to launch its paid robo-taxi service on June 22,» the publication notes.
At the same time, as the publication writes, Zoox «resembles toasters on wheels» and has no manual controls or parts such as a steering wheel or pedals.
Interestingly, the strategy for the development of unmanned technologies and AUVs in Ukraine until 2030 presented by the Ministry of Digital Affairs also mentions autonomous tractors and robotaxis.
