Electric cars became sales leaders in Ukraine for the first time: VOLKSWAGEN ID.Unyx is the most popular model

In September 2025, the Ukrainian new car market showed a record result over the past 12 months.

New car market in September — a new record

In September 2025, Ukrainians purchased over 6,800 new passenger cars, Ukravtoprom reports . This is a record result over the past 12 months — 1% more than in August and 20% more than in September 2024.

For the first time, the Chinese BYD took the lead in the market , exceeding its last year's result by five times - 989 units were sold.

Next in the top three were: TOYOTA — 828 units (-1% by September 2024) and VOLKSWAGEN — 733 units (+118%);

A total of 52,900 new passenger cars have been registered in the country since the beginning of the year, which is 0.3% less than last year.

For the first time, fully electric models became the most popular in Ukraine

Electric cars account for a third of September's new car sales, compared to 15.3% last year.

In second place are cars with gasoline engines, the share of which decreased from 36.8% to 31.2%.

Hybrids captured 20.3% of the market, down from 21.5% in September 2024.

The share of diesel cars decreased from 26% to 15.3% over the year.

Cars with HBO, like last year, accounted for less than 1% of new car sales.

VOLKSWAGEN ID.Unyx became the leader of the September new car market

Last month, the leadership in the Ukrainian new car market was taken by the VOLKSWAGEN ID.Unyx electric crossover — 432 cars were sold.

The second most popular was the RENAULT Duster — 406.

In third place is the TOYOTA RAV-4 — 292.
