The incident occurred on November 18 in Waco, Texas. After delivering a package, one of Amazon’s MK30 drones was taking off from a customer’s yard when one of its six propellers became entangled in an internet cable, according to CNBC, which published a video of the incident.
It shows an Amazon drone cutting a cable and then landing on the ground, with one of its propellers apparently damaged.
Amazon confirmed the incident and said that after the internet cable broke, the drone made a «safe emergency landing,» explaining that this is a mode that allows drones to land safely in unforeseen conditions.
«No one was injured and there was no major disruption to internet service. We paid for the cable line repair for the customer and apologize for the inconvenience this caused them,» an Amazon spokesperson said, noting that the drone delivered the package.
The company has long sought to deliver packages using drones and is currently facing competition from Walmart in this market. In the future , Amazon orders may be delivered by courier robots — the company is working on artificial intelligence software that will allow robots to deliver packages in Rivian electric vans and bring them right to your door.
