Ukrainian EdTech company Promova has seen its second wave of layoffs in a year

Ukrainian EdTech company Promova, part of the Genesis ecosystem, has begun a new wave of layoffs. This is the second staff optimization in 2026 and the third in the last 12 months.

The DOU publication reported on the dismissal, citing its own sources in the company, as well as information from the Telegram channel "Overheard in IT".

The exact number of laid-off specialists and the official reasons for the new round of layoffs are not disclosed at this time. dev.ua has reached out to Promova for comment on the situation.

The previous stage of layoffs took place in August 2026, when 63 specialists left the company. At that time, Promova explained this decision by organizational changes and a review of the structure in accordance with new business priorities. The dismissed employees were promised severance pay in the amount of a month’s salary, compensation for unused vacation days, preservation of corporate benefits for the transition period, as well as assistance in compiling resumes and letters of recommendation.

Promova has been developing an application and web platform for learning foreign languages since 2019. The reductions in Genesis ecosystem products have been ongoing since the end of last year: in November 2025, Promova laid off 28 specialists (about 15% of the team), after which 157 employees remained on staff.

In June 2026, the FTC filed a lawsuit against Genesis Tech and related companies over subscription terms, but Promova was not named as a defendant. However, in August 2026, another EdTech company in the Genesis ecosystem also made layoffs — Codefinity laid off about 35 employees, more than half of its staff.

In September, it became known that the Ukrainian studio PlayMe, the developer of the AI-dating game MeChat from the Genesis ecosystem, was completely ceasing to exist, which resulted in more than 100 specialists being laid off.
