"Freeloader detected." The employer suggested that the designer create a page of an unfinished project to assess her skills. Aitovo residents call this approach "business on test"
UI/UX designer Mariia Enhelke told how she received a cooperation offer from an employer who is likely building a business on test tasks completed by candidates.

«In short, the situation. I’m sitting here, quietly doing my work, when someone knocks on my personal tg. He says: „Hello, I’m from Behance, you have some great work in your portfolio. And I’m the owner of an online lighting store, and I need to update the design, because it’s already old.“ Oh, I think Behance is working, I didn’t work hard on the cases for nothing. I write something general, like „okay, tell me more about your store, show me the old site,“ and in my head I’m already thinking about how to neatly bring it to the ring. But then he writes something like „Oh, we’ve already started updating, we already have the main one, you just need to finish all the other pages.“ Well, anything can happen, I think. He drops a link to the project in Figma, I go in, and there’s a well-developed UI-kit, the main one is beautifully done, and one secondary page. And the next message was: „Well, in short, make us one secondary page, any one, so we can understand whether we are suitable for each other.“ Well, you understand,» said Maria.
The girl asked the potential employer why the previous designer hadn’t done all the pages (and how many there were). «But for some reason, this guy didn’t respond to me anymore. I can’t understand why,» the designer ironically says.
In the comments to Maria’s post, IT experts suggest that this is a new way for businesses to get an updated design without paying for the designers' work — in exchange for test tasks.
Lead Flutter Developer Bohdan Honcharuk notes: «Somewhere this is what „business at the expense of testing“ looks like. And this has been written about many times. Ukrainians are very inventive.»
«Come for free?» asks designer Ira Ivankova .
«He somehow finally compiled your natal chart and understood that it wasn’t ‘this is not a match.’ And that’s for the better, why do you need freebies?», — System Administrator Konstantin Prokhorov ironically says.
According to game developer Serhiy Chechuy, in the era of AI, which should satisfy this kind of need, such characters still do not disappear.
Svyatoslav Bordovsky, QA Automation Engineer, commented on the situation briefly: «Freeloader detected.»
UPD. «My test is a real project that I would have to work on if I got the offer.» The designer believes that her employer offered her the test as part of a commercial project. The company explained what happened and why it was wrong
