In 2024, 500 Juns joined the ERAM Ukraine team. This year, the company aims to offer permanent work to even more beginners.
"We have an ambitious goal to transfer even more juniors from our campus to permanent jobs (we do not take beginners from the market). A year ago, we invited 500 Junior specialists to the team. And this year we plan to cross the mark of 700 beginners," said Stepan Mytish, head of EPAM Ukraine, in an interview with DOU.
The coming years for juniors will be better than the previous two or three, believes the head of EPAM Ukraine.
Ukrainian business has recovered from the shock of the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Now it faces another challenge - intense competition for the price of services.
“The number of senior specialists in EPAM has increased. Accordingly, our bones have grown. To successfully compete worldwide (primarily with Indian companies), we need to have a balanced cost of teams. And it is the juniors who will help us do this: they bring new ideas, have grown with technology, and make the team more flexible in terms of pricing,” says Mitish.
Growing competition and rapid changes in the world of technology - these two factors have contributed to the fact that the requirements for Junos have increased, according to Mytish.
In his opinion, in addition to fundamental knowledge - mathematics, English, programming languages, you need to master Cloud technologies and AI. This has become a prerequisite for most beginners.
"AI takes on the "how to do it", while an engineer should focus on the "why" and "why". Making HTML layout or writing a regular expression for artificial intelligence is not a problem. When I was a programmer, I always had difficulties with this. Now it is enough to write a prompt. We are moving to a higher level of abstraction, and the ability to solve business problems will be increasingly valued, rather than writing perfect code. Artificial intelligence is developing exponentially, and what will happen in five years, one can only guess," notes the head of EPAM Ukraine.
