"Honest confession: I'm a little bit stupid." Junior developer complains about AI-driven work and degradation due to AI. LinkedIn discussion

A post by junior JavaScript Full-Stack Developer Elya Neplokhov about working at an AI-driven company sparked an active discussion among Ukrainian IT professionals on LinkedIn.
The girl wrote that after three months of working at a company where a significant portion of tasks were delegated to AI tools, she felt that she was starting to lose her independent programming skills.
«Honest confession: I’m a little dumb,» she wrote .
According to Eli, during her work she used AI tools so actively that she partially «lost the ability to write code on her own,» and after returning to the job search she felt gaps in theory and practice. «I learned one thing from this experience: I’m not good with AI-driven companies,» the developer noted.
However, in the comments under the post, many engineers disagreed that the problem lies with AI.
Senior Backend Engineer Maksym Shatsky believes that it all depends on how AI tools are used. «If AI replaces thinking, degradation is almost inevitable. If it enhances it, on the contrary, you can grow faster,» he wrote.
A similar opinion was expressed by Full Stack Developer Oleksandr Tsisinsky. According to him, it doesn’t matter to the business who wrote the code — a human or an AI assistant — as long as the team quickly delivers results.
At the same time, some commentators agreed that overreliance on AI could be risky for junior professionals.
Product Builder and Full-Stack Engineer Serhiy Cherniokv believes that an AI-native environment can be difficult for beginners who have not yet built a strong base. «I would say that from the strong middle+ level, you can more confidently delegate some of the work to AI agents,» he noted.
Elya herself says that for two weeks now she has been writing code exclusively by hand. «I’m getting myself back little by little.»
