Ericsson upgrades lifecell's network core and prepares it for 5G deployment

lifecell and Ericsson have signed a strategic agreement to modernize the core of lifecell’s mobile network. It involves moving to a cloud-based architecture. What does this mean for subscribers?
The corresponding agreement was signed in Kyiv by the heads of the companies — lifecell director Mikhail Shelemba and the head of Ericsson’s representative office in Ukraine Victoria Gvarishvili.
As part of the project, lifecell is transitioning to a cloud-native network core architecture based on Ericsson solutions, in particular, a data transmission and Internet access service service system (Packet Core) and modern subscriber data management systems (User Data Management).
The core upgrade will allow lifecell to improve network performance and resilience, optimize resource utilization, and significantly reduce time to market for new services. The cloud-native architecture should provide a higher level of automation and reliability.
The network core is being updated in accordance with modern 5G principles. This will allow for improved service quality, dynamic management of network resources, and the implementation of 5G Standalone and network slicing technologies. At the same time, lifecell is modernizing its subscriber data management system by implementing the Ericsson Cloud Native Unified Data Management (UDM) solution, which provides unified, scalable, and secure subscriber data management.
Modernization of the network core will provide higher data transfer speeds in 5G NSA networks, and in the future — 5G Standalone (SA) with low latency for subscriber data transmission. This affects the comfort of using the mobile Internet during streaming, online gaming and video communication.
The transition to a cloud-centric core also increases network resilience and reliability, reduces the risk of communication interruptions and downtime, and creates the technical prerequisites for faster implementation of new services and devices — in particular, low-latency applications (AR/VR, modern gaming services).
The Cabinet is preparing 5G frequencies in two bands for a tender. What is most interesting is that the military will also be able to deploy private 4G/5G networks. Here’s what we learned
«Це час, щоб стояти за країну. Навіть не думайте про свою зарплатню». Інтерв'ю з CEO lifecell Ісметом Язиджи
CEO мобільного оператора lifecell Ісмет Язиджи — з Північного Кіпру. Але за п’ять років життя в Україні він так звик до місця, що асоціює цю країну зі своїм другим домом. Ісмет обожнює Київ. І минулого тижня сюди повернувся. Він був вражений від того, що тут побачив.
