The Ministry of Digital Transformation is working on a concept for a new threat alert system. They plan to launch it for businesses first, and then for ordinary citizens. The concept is planned to be formed within the next one to two weeks.
This was stated by the new head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Oksana Ferchuk, in an interview with Forbes.
According to her, the idea arose against the backdrop of attacks on Ukrainian logistics infrastructure. Recently, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky met with business representatives due to shelling of logistics facilities. Ferchuk says that the Ministry of Digital Affairs can join in protecting businesses through digital tools.
«We are thinking about creating a more modern alert system. First for businesses, and then for citizens. A week or two and we will formulate a concept,» the minister said.
So far, Ferchuk has not revealed exactly how the system will work and what technologies they plan to use.
At the same time, she calls preparations for the new winter one of the hottest areas of work for the Ministry of Digital Economy. According to her, the ministry has been working for about three weeks to prepare for possible problems with electricity, mobile communications, and the Internet.
A separate area is the resilience of mobile networks. The Ministry of Digital Affairs wants to increase the requirements for the duration of mobile communication during blackouts. Ferchuk said that the next government resolution should determine a new limit, and the ministry «aims to have it increased.»
«On the one hand, these are additional investments. But I would like to note that mobile operators are consciously approaching this. If there is no connection, they will have no subscribers and no income,» she said.
Another priority is the spread of xPON technology, which allows you to maintain Internet access in the absence of electricity in the house, provided that the equipment has backup power.
According to Ferchuk, xPON is currently used by 53% of fixed Internet users in Ukraine. The Ministry of Digital Affairs is also preparing a map on which users will be able to check where such networks are available.
For civilian technologies in Ukraine, they want to create their own analogue of Brave1. What other plans does the new head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs have?
