GOG adds local currencies for Romania and Hungary. Ukrainian hryvnia could be next
GOG, the digital video game store owned by Polish group CD Projekt, has expanded its list of supported local currencies and launched regional pricing for players in Romania, Hungary and South Africa. Users in these countries can now purchase DRM-free games in their local currencies.
GOG, the digital video game store owned by Polish group CD Projekt, has expanded its list of supported local currencies and launched regional pricing for players in Romania, Hungary and South Africa. Users in these countries can now purchase DRM-free games in their local currencies.
This became known from an official GOG message on social networks.
From now on, game prices in the mentioned countries are displayed in Romanian leu (RON), Hungarian forint (HUF) and South African rand (ZAR). In addition to changing the payment currency, the platform has introduced an adapted pricing policy that takes into account the purchasing power of local markets. Previously, GOG added support for the Czech koruna.
«What’s next? Indian rupees or maybe Ukrainian hryvnia? Write your wishes,» GOG noted.
Currently, GOG still does not support the Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) as an official payment currency, which forces users from Ukraine to buy games at prices in US dollars. At the same time, on the official forum and in the Community Wishlist section, Ukrainian players have been actively calling on the platform to add UAH and adjust its pricing policy for the Ukrainian region for several years in a row. The main competitor of the Polish service — Steam from Valve — has supported the hryvnia since the end of 2017.
Recall that CD Projekt RED recently announced the development of Songs of the Past, a story expansion for the role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The company also launched official pages on social networks in Ukrainian, which raises hopes for the appearance of an official Ukrainian localization of The Witcher 3 with the release of the new expansion in 2027.
