Google Chrome gets Gemini AI-based protection to detect fraud and ClickFix attacks

Google is adding new security tools to the Chrome browser that use artificial intelligence to detect online fraud, recognize suspicious sites, and warn users about the dangers of executing malicious commands.
The new improvements are primarily targeted at users who have Enhanced Protection mode enabled. According to Google, this mode makes users 10 times more protected from phishing, social engineering, and other online threats compared to standard protection, writes Windows Report.
Warning about suspicious sites
According to Google's latest security statement, Chrome now clearly distinguishes between suspicious and dangerous websites.
Users will receive special warnings when the browser detects a potentially misleading content but cannot 100% classify the resource as completely malicious. High-risk sources will still be blocked with the familiar full-screen red warning window.
To help users quickly assess the threat level before visiting a page, Google introduced distinctive colors, icons, and message textures.
Gemini AI on security guard
Google is also expanding the capabilities of its AI-powered Gemini scam detection system, which can now detect fake antivirus alerts and fraudulent browser update pages (previously, the feature focused mostly on “tech support” schemes).
The browser has moved from using only local computing on the device to a powerful server-side model called Gemini. It analyzes suspicious pages for:
imitations of famous brands;
Misleading content;
other markers of online fraud.
Chrome combines Gemini analytics with domain reputation and additional security signals before making a warning decision.
The company emphasizes that Chrome only sends page content for analysis when it detects clear signs of fraud. This data is not stored or used to train AI models.
Protection against ClickFix attacks
Another important update addresses ClickFix attacks, which trick users into copying and executing malicious commands on their computers by displaying fake browser errors or “verification” instructions, prompting them to paste the command into Windows PowerShell or the Command Prompt.
With Enhanced Protection enabled, Chrome analyzes suspicious commands as you copy and paste them, and displays a warning if it detects a potential threat. Google's statement emphasizes that the system is designed to minimize false positives and not interfere with legitimate command line work.
How to enable new security features
To enable enhanced security tools in Chrome, follow these steps:
Open Chrome browser Settings.
Go to Privacy and security ➔ Security.
In the Safe Browsing section, select Enhanced protection mode.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
