“Google Maps doesn’t know that your truck weighs 20 tons.” A Ukrainian developer has developed a separate navigation solution for truck drivers. Why is this relevant?

Senior Markup Developer Oleksandr Tyutyunyk has developed a separate solution for logisticians, dispatchers, and truck drivers that takes into account the dimensions of your vehicle and selects routes based on this.

The developer announced this on his LinkedIn page.

«Google Maps 'doesn’t know' that your truck weighs 20 tons. Conventional navigation ignores height, weight, and size restrictions — and a truck driver may find himself on a bridge where entry is prohibited, or on a road that is simply not designed for trucks,» explained Oleksandr Tyutyunyk.

The developer noted that within the application he is developing for a friend, he has implemented a route building module specifically for trucks: taking into account height, width, weight, and road restrictions.

According to Oleksandr Tyutyunyk, the solution currently has only basic functionality, but he plans to make several improvements, including manually moving points and additional stops.

In a comment to dev.ua, the IT guy explained that he did it as a pet project, but now he sees interest from the audience, so he is thinking about creating a full-fledged application.

Tyutyunik posted his decision at this link .

As dev.ua reported, Ukrainian tech entrepreneur, backend and AI engineer Ihor Karas announced the relaunch of his technology service Rail-X, which helps drivers receive information about the status of railroad crossings in real time and make route decisions.
