The short film tells the story of a young woman living in a world after ecological collapse. Her passion for plants unexpectedly turns into a key to survival: thanks to her ability to “hear” the Earth, she finds hidden sources of water on which the future of humanity depends. When corporations try to take control of this discovery and deprive the world of access to vital resources, the heroine is forced to make a choice between personal safety and responsibility for a shared future. The film explores the fragile line between man and nature, raising questions about the price of progress and the consequences of greed.
The development and creation of "The Translator" was handled by Ukrainian film director Philip Lee, known for his video works with numerous Ukrainian and international stars, such as Alicia Keys, DJ Khaled, and Mike Towers, as well as festival short film awards.
The film was produced by Natella Krapivina, founder of the cult Ukrainian TV show "Eagle and Tails" and the creative holding company Rizz Group, a director and producer who is behind numerous high-profile media and film projects, in particular, a long-term collaboration with singer Svetlana Loboda, which she ended several years ago.
The winner of the award will be determined by audience voting, which will last until December 25. You can vote for the film at the link.
The 12 finalists from over 16,000 applications were selected by an honorary jury, which included leading representatives of the world's artificial intelligence and innovative technologies, including Google Creative Director Dan Germain, YouTube Creative Director Christian Haas, and ElevenLabs Co-Founder and CTO Piotr Dabkowski.
"The Translator" is the only Ukrainian film nominated for the 1 Billion AI Film Award. Short films by directors from South Korea, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Germany, Spain, the Philippines, Canada, Tunisia, and Jordan also made it to the finals.
