About the program
In February of this year, Google.org announced the creation of the AI Opportunity Fund: Europe program with a total budget of 15 million euros, providing support to the non-profit organization Center for Public Impact (CPI). CPI then invited non-profits and community-based organizations that focus on supporting vulnerable communities to apply for funding and access advanced and customized basic AI training courses developed by Google and external partners.
More than 400 applications from 29 countries were received, from which 80 organizations in 24 countries were selected. Together, all organizations will deliver AI training to more than 20,000 people — women, people with disabilities, migrant workers and displaced people — with the goal of spreading basic AI knowledge that will lead to positive long-term career outcomes.
“Recent advances in AI, especially Generative AI, have the potential to boost the EU economy by €1.2 trillion and save the average worker over 70 hours a year. But to realize AI's potential, it's vital to share resources that help people from different industries understand how to use this technology — especially for people from socially vulnerable communities," the company said in a statement.
4 organizations from Ukraine are among the recipients of the AI Opportunity Fund: Europe
Association of Mothers and Wives of Defenders of Ukraine — The organization plans to train 500 Ukrainian war veterans and their family members in basic AI skills and digital competencies to support their transition to civilian employment. This project gives participants the opportunity to explore new career paths, especially in creative fields such as AI-powered content creation and digital marketing, taking into account the special mobility and accessibility needs of veterans and their families
Junior Achievement Ukraine — Planned training of 1,000 young future entrepreneurs in 10 regions of Ukraine. The project will provide the necessary skills in the field of AI to participants from various sectors, including agriculture, telecommunications, etc. The goal of the project is to support groups with limited access to resources for successful implementation in the developing labor market of Ukraine.
Human rights non-governmental organization "Fulcrum " — The organization plans to train 72 LGBTQI+ people, including internally displaced persons, veterans, and people with disabilities. This project overcomes barriers to employment by equipping participants with the technical competence and confidence to navigate the competitive labor market, supporting their entry into Ukraine's expanding technology sector.
NGO "ALLIANS.GLOBAL" — NGO will teach 200 LGBTQI+ people throughout Ukraine basic AI skills to open new career opportunities in IT, education and finance. By addressing issues such as job loss, prejudice and limited access to education, this project prepares students for success in today's AI-driven job market.
