With a single tap, users can connect Gemini to Gmail, Photos, YouTube and Search, Google says . Once connected, Gemini will be able to analyze data from all of these sources and find specific details. For example, you can ask for the license plate number of a car you recently traveled in, and Gemini will recognize it in your photos. Or you can ask for a specific hotel you’ve stayed at in the past, and Gemini will find the answer by analyzing your Gmail history.
Google specifically emphasized the protection of private data. Although information from Drive and Photos is already in the Google ecosystem, integration with Gemini is initially deactivated — the user decides whether to enable it and which applications to add. It is important that Gemini does not duplicate content on third-party resources to generate answers, since the data is already in the system.
Personalized answers will also include links to connected sources, allowing users to verify information if necessary. Google also noted that Gemini will avoid proactively making assumptions about sensitive data, such as health information. However, it will be able to answer medical questions if the user asks them directly. Even with this feature enabled, Google will not use the contents of Gmail inboxes or Google Photos data to directly train the neural network. Instead, the training will be done on limited information, such as the user's specific queries in Gemini and the model's responses.
This new personal intelligence feature will be rolling out over the next week to select Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the US. The feature will work on the web, as well as Android and iOS. Google also confirmed that the feature will soon be available in AI Mode in Search.
It's important to note that the feature will only work with personal Google accounts and will not be available for business, corporate, or school Workspace accounts.
