The developers of GraphoGame, a game-based educational app that helps improve reading skills, are making it free for Ukrainian children. Negotiations are currently underway to launch a Ukrainian version of the product.

GraphoGame enables even 3-year-olds to learn to read in a matter of days, the press release notes. The application uses an early literacy development methodology that was developed in Finland based on scientific research. GraphoGame is used in over 30 countries and is used by over 8 million children.

The app costs $3, but the company made it free for Ukrainian children.

«We cannot underestimate the importance of literacy in shaping a child’s future. We aim to provide Ukrainian children with a tool that will help them resume and sustain their education, regardless of location or circumstances,» commented Mervy Palander, CEO of GraphoGame.

Will there be Ukrainian localization in GraphoGame?

GraphoGame currently supports 8 languages, but does not have Ukrainian localization. An English version of the application is available for Ukrainian children, which allows them to acquire basic reading and writing skills in British English. JobAtlas, which launched the educational platform for students «Profitrol», is in talks with GraphoGame about helping to create a Ukrainian version of the application.

«The difficulty lies in the fact that in this case it is not enough to localize the application interface. It is necessary to adapt the methodology itself, which takes into account the peculiarities of the language,» explained Vyacheslav Fokin, Director of JobAtlas.

He added that the company plans to cooperate with local linguistic universities, which will help to make a Ukrainian-language adaptation of the application using a scientific approach.

Full-scale Russian invasion harms the education of Ukrainian children

According to Save the Children (2024), about 5.7 million Ukrainian children are in need of educational assistance due to the Russian war. Forced displacement complicates the learning process.

Literacy, a fundamental skill for education, has been particularly affected. According to UNESCO, many children who have been forced to leave their homes are lagging behind in reading and writing, jeopardizing their future educational and social prospects.

The GraphoGame application can work without access to the Internet, which makes it possible to use it even in difficult conditions of frontline zones. The application is available for free download for Ukrainians on iOS and Android .

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Mykhailo Fedorov, spoke about plans to introduce artificial intelligence into the «Diya.Osvita» platform together with Google, and to create more educational products for the development of Ukrainians.
