The CEO of vibecoding startup Lovable named four things he pays attention to when hiring specialists

Co-founder and CEO of the Swedish company Lovable, Anton Osika, told what he pays attention to when selecting specialists to work on a vibecoding platform.

The 35-year-old entrepreneur told Business Insider that he’s more interested in a candidate’s ability to learn than their current skills. Osika said he’s looking for people who demonstrate «ability, breadth of perspective, curiosity, and a desire to build.»

According to him, candidates must have “ ability, not just skills». He explained that this means the candidate’s ability to master new skills and move up the learning curve.

«I care more about how quickly a person learns and adapts than where they are today. If the conversation seems lively, if I leave having learned something new, that’s a strong sign that this person will thrive on the team and push our working methods forward,» said Anton Osika.

Lovable’s CEO also said he’s looking for «generalists, not niche specialists». He added that he’d rather hire people «who can do a bit of everything — design, coding, product thinking — than someone who’s a world leader in just one area.» «Range matters when you’re creating new categories,» Osika said.

The entrepreneur said he wants to see «first principles thinking» in potential employees. His company needs people «who don’t just copy textbooks, but ask why things are the way they are,» he added. «That curiosity and ability to think from scratch often gives you an advantage,» says the Lovable co-founder.

Anton Osika added that he wants to have «builders, not talkers» on his team. «We prefer people who demonstrate that they can implement, iterate, and create something real — whether it’s a product, a project, or even just a hack that proves a point,» he said.

He also commented on the recruiting strategy of Meta and Microsoft, which offer huge signing bonuses to lure potential AI employees. Osika said that throwing money at Lovable won’t make the hiring process any easier.

«If I knew who the ideal engineer to recruit was, I could raise our compensation ranges to get just that. But I don’t know who the best people are,» said the Lovable CEO.

He added that first he just needed to find out if they were really very good employees, if they could be trained, and if they would work well as a team.

Recall that in early summer, it became known that Lovable was in talks to raise at least $100 million in funding at a valuation of $1.5 billion or more from American investors. This could make it one of the largest new players in the AI field in the European market.
