«President Zelensky is one of the greatest leaders of our time, who has led Ukraine through the darkest period in its modern history, stood up to Russian aggression, inspired the Ukrainian people, and ensured that Ukraine’s voice was heard on the world stage,» Branson wrote on Twitter, owned by Trump supporter Elon Musk.
This was his response to the statement of US President Donald Trump, who called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a «dictator without elections» on his social network Truth Social. Trump criticized Zelenskyy for refusing to hold elections during martial law and said that the Ukrainian leader has a low trust rating (allegedly 4% approval, although polls show 57%). He also called on Zelenskyy to act quickly, otherwise Ukraine risks losing its statehood.
These statements provoked a negative reaction among European leaders, representatives of the US Democratic Party, and even a number of Republicans .
Richard Branson is known for his active support for Ukraine. Since 2014, he has consistently advocated for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. He has visited Ukraine on several occasions and called on business leaders to unite around its support in the face of a full-scale Russian invasion.
«Ukraine’s fight for freedom is the world’s fight. For the rule of law to triumph over tyranny and darkness, President Zelensky and his country need unwavering support,» Branson believes.
Ukrainian tech entrepreneurs also spoke out in support of the current president of Ukraine. «No, this is complete s**t! The leader of a nation that claims to establish world order blames the victim for not being destroyed quickly enough. What else?», — commented on Trump’s statements by monobank co-founder Oleg Horokhovsky.
