It seems that xAI is short of IT talent: Elon Musk will personally review old resumes to find promising candidates
Elon Musk will personally review old interview transcripts as key people continue to leave xAI. The tech mogul acknowledged the AI company's organizational problems, adding that similar problems have occurred at Tesla.
Elon Musk will personally review old interview transcripts as key people continue to leave xAI. The tech mogul acknowledged the AI company's organizational problems, adding that similar problems have occurred at Tesla.
"Many talented people have been denied offers or even interviews with xAI over the past few years. I apologize," Musk wrote on X.
Musk added that he and Baris Akis, who works on xAI's talent acquisition team, will "review the company's interview history and re-reach out to promising candidates."
The recruitment efforts come amid an ongoing exodus of xAI co-founders . Earlier this week, Zihan Dai left xAI, and Guodong Zhang told colleagues he plans to resign in the coming days.
These layoffs follow a recent series of exits by xAI co-founders, including Toby Polen, Jimmy Ba, Tony Wu, and Greg Young, all of whom left the company starting in January.
Amid the dismissals of co-founders, Musk also acknowledged the startup's shortcomings.
“xAI wasn’t built right the first time, so now it’s being rebuilt from the ground up,” billionaire Musk said. “The same thing happened with Tesla.”
In addition to staffing issues, Max admitted that “Grok is currently lagging behind in the programming space.” He said this at the Abundance Summit on Wednesday.
“The reason I’m late is because I just attended a big developer meeting where we were looking at everything we need to do to get significantly ahead of our competitors in coding — and I think we’re going to do it,” he said.
