"I recently fired all Ukrainian developers. And they took the Indians — it's just fire." The IT community discusses the case of a US company that replaced straightforward Ukrainians with cheap, quiet Indians: a discussion with 270+ comments
SEO expert Igor Shulezhko told a story about how an American company fired all Ukrainian developers and replaced them with Indians. This information interested the community: a discussion with 270+ commenters.
SEO expert Igor Shulezhko told a story about how an American company fired all Ukrainian developers and replaced them with Indians. This information interested the community: a discussion with 270+ commenters.
«I’m talking to a client from America. A guy has been living there for about 20 years, he’s originally from Lviv. And recently he fired all the Ukrainian developers. I ask why? He says: «It’s simple. In terms of money — like the Americans on the next street, but with as little soft skills as possible. Where it would be possible to remain silent — they will definitely say something. And not just say it, but also in a negative way, as if someone owes them something. And they hired Indians — just fire. They do everything normally, cheaper, if they don’t have time for something — they apologize three times, unlike ours, if they did something wrong — they will redo it quickly and without questions,» he said .
Igor noted that this is not the first time he has seen a similar case in the last six months and asked the community if they have encountered such a case.
The expert’s post garnered hundreds of reactions and comments. We’ve selected the most interesting ones.
Oleksandr Savytsky, Search Engine Optimization Specialist, agrees with the entrepreneur described in the post: «I constantly see the same story, where our citizens in office do more harm than good. And citizens of other countries, like India, are much more motivated and do much more and generally better than our compatriots. Unfortunately.»
Full-Stack Developer Iryna Kostromytska notes: «I’m trying to convey the same thing to our specialists. That IT people are no longer geeks/geniuses/scientists. That you need to come down to earth, realize that you are simply providing services and be client-oriented.»
SEO Team Lead Anna Dragalchuk writes: «True, due to toxicity. But it partly depends on the direction of the developer, most of them were still adequate, nice people with further career development. But there were also bright exceptions. In large outsourcing companies, they reject if there are problems with communication, especially when the customers are Western, from the same states. Therefore, specialists adapt, grow. And in small ones with a weak culture, sometimes trash happens.»
Junior .NET developer Yegor Sukhomlyn says: «I know a case where the customer replaced Ukrainian developers with Indians, and a year later came running with a request to fix everything that the Indians had screwed up, but it was so screwed up that it had to be done from scratch. The customer agreed, of course, and he had to pay for his solution too. „A miser pays twice“ — I always refer to this rule.»
«This is the first time I hear Indians praised… because everyone who has had experience working with them is still treating nerves in dispensaries and patching holes in budgets and plans,» says Art Director Galina Sidenko. In her opinion, when it comes to soft skills, the post-Soviet space is, unfortunately, very toxic in many ways. «But I’ve also almost never heard of word-of-mouth in American companies,» notes Galina.
Senior HR Systems Analyst Olga Alexandrova adds: «We have been working with various Indian teams for a long time and it is a nightmare. They never clarify anything, they break everything that worked well, and do whatever they want, without understanding.»
According to Stanislav Karapysh, .NET Software Engineer, Ukrainians are not worth as much on the market as specialists from the USA. «I only see bias in this case. I didn’t know that we have the same price tag as Americans. Then all our outsource/outstaffing companies are in collusion and underpay us. If people allow themselves too much, it’s not always bad, at least it’s an alternative opinion, criticism. You’re building communication with the team incorrectly, if this is something where you could „keep quiet“ — it’s said as if he was telling a story from life and he didn’t like how he was supported.»
«I have been working with Indians since 2018, I have never seen any soft skills or positivity there. They are silent very rarely and where they shouldn’t be. They are rude, unpleasant and have very low expertise. They are very cheap. That’s all,» says Senior Product Manager Olena Fayad.
«Maybe recruiting is just a simulator of broken hopes?» Recruiter told how a candidate who responded to a vacancy disappeared without a trace. Aitovites call the situation karma
«IT today is a kind of Bollywood, where everything is decided by special effects.» The developer described the situation in global IT and the influence of Indian developers on it
