"Staying at work until 3 a.m." Indian Rockstar Games developers complain about unpaid overtime ahead of GTA VI release
Rockstar Games is once again talking about the team’s workload ahead of a major release. One of the company’s employees, a QA analyst from the Bengaluru, India office, posted an anonymous review on Glassdoor, describing the stressful working conditions during the preparation of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Rockstar Games is once again talking about the team’s workload ahead of a major release. One of the company’s employees, a QA analyst from the Bengaluru, India office, posted an anonymous review on Glassdoor, describing the stressful working conditions during the preparation of Grand Theft Auto VI.
According to him, the team is being given deadlines that are half as short as realistic ones: tasks that usually take 5–6 months have to be completed in 2–3. At the same time, since last month, employees have been working overtime — without additional pay. The review also mentions that some employees stay at work until 3 a.m., which is already affecting the physical and psychological state of the team.
«You are expected to work overtime without pay. The schedule has been very busy lately. Some colleagues are working until 3 am after a full day,» the review said.
The author also notes that appeals to management do not yield results, and asks management to be more flexible: «We are people too.»
Journalist Rhys Riley confirmed that such cases can occur, but added that in India, work-life balance is generally difficult, and such workloads are not uncommon there.
Against this backdrop, Take-Two Interactive is actively preparing for the game’s marketing campaign: the company is looking for a Production Artist in New York and, according to insiders, is already working on outdoor advertising. It is expected that more details about the release may appear after the financial report on May 21.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
