iOS 26 will automatically disable FaceTime calls if it detects a naked body

Apple plans to limit virtual intimate experiments in the new iOS 26: if a hint of nudity appears in the FaceTime frame, the call will automatically stop. This feature is already working in beta.
According to a report by TechSpot, Apple is preparing a new security system that can automatically "freeze" video and audio in FaceTime if possible nudity is detected in the frame. A message will appear on the screen with the text "You are probably showing something sensitive," and the user will be offered two options: end the call or resume it manually.
This feature was discovered in the beta version of iOS 26. It is part of a broader suite of parental control tools that Apple has been developing since 2021. The company notes that the system works entirely on the device: data is not transmitted to Apple servers, and FaceTime encryption is not broken.
However, there have already been reports online that the feature may remain active even after being disabled, likely due to a bug. Some users believe that the feature is enabled by default only on accounts for people under 18.
It is currently unknown what level of nudity triggers the alert: it could be full nudity or a conditionally “suspicious” context. In light of this, jokes are already appearing on social media: will the system stop the call if someone takes off their coat or eats a “too erotic” sausage?
Apple has implemented similar features before—for example, Communication Safety in Messages scans attachments for nudity locally, too. But adding a similar mechanism to encrypted FaceTime is a new move that has raised concerns among some users.
The public beta of iOS 26 is expected to arrive in July, with a full release expected in September alongside the iPhone 17.
The company first announced its communication security features back in 2021. They were designed to protect children, but over time the list of options has expanded to include adult users. All mechanisms are based on on-device machine learning, that is, on local data analysis without connecting to servers.
We previously reported that Apple's upcoming operating systems may be named after years rather than version numbers. This means that after iOS 18, there will be iOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26.
