SpaceX made history with its largest IPO, making its founder Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire.
According to Bloomberg, the IPO raised $75 billion by selling 555.6 million shares at $135 each. Thus, SpaceX’s IPO is more than double Saudi Aramco’s $29.4 billion listing in 2019.
According to a statement from Space Exploration Technologies Corp, as it is officially called, the underwriting banks have also been granted an option to purchase an additional 83.3 million shares at the IPO price, which would increase the deal size to approximately $86 billion if the option is fully exercised.
At its IPO price, SpaceX has a market value of $1.77 trillion. The company will debut on Nasdaq and Nasdaq Texas on Friday under the symbol SPCX.
Musk’s fan base is a key component of the deal, the publication writes, citing its sources. Fans have placed orders for shares worth more than $100 billion, which is much more than the 20% of shares that were reserved for them.
At the same time, one of the most famous traders, James Chanos, called it an «IPO of hopes and dreams,» because these crazy amounts of money, in his opinion, are due to enthusiasm for Musk and artificial intelligence, and not to the fundamental principles of a company that has not yet made a profit.
AI giants Anthropic and OpenAI, which are set to go public this year, are also expected to be valued at over $1 trillion each.
Currently, the market value at the IPO price places SpaceX in the top ten public companies in the world.

The publication reminds that the IPO should bring profit to a wide range of sponsors, from venture capital firms to investors in specialized funds and even members of the Trump administration.
As dev.ua wrote, OpenAI secretly filed for an IPO following Anthropic and SpaceX.
