“The question is who will be faster: mono will build a good marketplace, or we will issue millions of cards like mono.” Kasta’s marketplace will be transformed into an ecosystem with its own card, competing with monobank

In May, DCH, an investment company run by Kharkiv businessman Oleksandr Yaroslavsky, acquired a majority stake in marketplace Kasta, in which it plans to invest $120 million over three years. Last week, the company announced a rebranding and launch of a multifunctional “super app.” Kasta founder Andriy Logvin talks about transforming the marketplace into an ecosystem.
"Initially, marketplaces won the market. Now it's time for ecosystems. You can create volume in retail and make money in fintech. This is a reliable business model. Therefore, for me, this is not a restart of Kasta, but the development of the retail direction. Transforming a marketplace into an ecosystem is a logical and conscious step," Andriy Logvin said in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.
According to the founder of Kasta, all ecosystems are similar to each other, which usually include shopping, fintech, postal services, and the insurance business.
Competition with monobank
The KastaVisa Card bank card has been added to the marketplace application in partnership with the Credit Dnipro bank in Yaroslavl. It provides cashback of up to 20%, discounts of up to 30% on Kasta products, and a credit limit of up to UAH 100,000. Banking and retail services will be combined in the SuperApp.
The plan is to issue up to a hundred thousand cards by the end of the year, and then millions. But Kasta Visa Card is very similar to a monobank, which was able to reach the 10 million card mark over the years with an empty market.
“monobank came to the superapp from fintech. We came from retail and will compete for customers. The question is who will be faster — mono will build a good marketplace or we will issue millions of cards like mono,” Logvin noted. “We have a different business model and limited time. If another large retailer also distributes its cards and moves towards the ecosystem, it will be difficult to win. We need to do everything quickly.”
Currently, the Kasta team consists of about 500 people. The IT team includes 50 specialists from the marketplace itself and Credit Dnipro Bank.
"For the products we produce, this is very small. Our competitors have incomparably larger teams. We plan to compete not with quantity, but with quality," noted the founder of Kasta.
