Coffee machine for food: startup Posha has created a kitchen robot that prepares homemade meals

Indian engineer Raghav Gupta has founded a startup that promises to revolutionize everyday home cooking. His device, Posha, prepares food on its own with minimal human intervention — just add ingredients and press a button.

Startup Posha, formerly known as Nymble, is developing a compact kitchen robot that can prepare hot meals at home on its own. The device uses computer vision to accurately prepare food and allows users to customize recipes to their own preferences, TechCrunch reports.

Posha works on a principle similar to a coffee machine: the user selects a dish from the menu, adds the ingredients to individual containers, after which the robot performs all the stages of preparation - roasting, stewing, mixing, etc. If the ingredients differ from the original recipe - for example, a vegetable is substituted or the measurements are incorrect - the device automatically adjusts the cooking process. The main goal is to reduce the time and stress associated with cooking, without sacrificing quality.

Posha is not yet fully autonomous: the user must purchase, wash, and chop the ingredients themselves. The robot is most popular with people who cook 2-6 times a week and want to save at least some of their time. According to Gupta, the device can reduce daily time in the kitchen from an hour to 10-20 minutes.

The device is available for pre-order on the official Posha website. It costs $1,500, and the company currently offers delivery only within the United States.

A little more about the startup

Posha has been through the Bosch accelerator and has also participated in TechCrunch Startup Battlefield. The company is based in San Francisco, and its founder, Raghav Gupta, has a technical background in mechatronics and worked in robotics before launching Posha, including on projects in India and Silicon Valley.

Gupta came up with the idea for the device in 2017, wanting to get the taste of home-cooked food without the time and effort of hiring a chef. The first prototype was a robotic arm, but after several rounds of testing, the team changed its approach to a more practical one, a desktop device suitable for everyday use at home.
