Head of the TFU: "Ukraine could enter the game and set a general framework for how the robotic weapons market should be regulated in Europe"
Executive Director of the Technological Forces of Ukraine association, Kateryna Mykhalko, believes that Ukraine should join the creation of regulatory mechanisms regarding robotic weapons in EU countries.
Executive Director of the Technological Forces of Ukraine association, Kateryna Mykhalko, believes that Ukraine should join the creation of regulatory mechanisms regarding robotic weapons in EU countries.
«Europe has never encountered such a large number of robotic weapons and drones before. Therefore, not all standards for drones exist in principle. Here, Ukraine could enter the game and, in fact, set a general framework for how the robotic weapons market in the EU should be regulated,» she noted during the event «What awaits the drone industry? Scenarios for 2026,» answering a question from a dev.ua journalist.
In addition, she noted that the European bureaucratic system in the field of armaments, despite everything, has a number of advantages.
«I do not believe that European bureaucracy should be overcome. I believe that European bureaucracy should be respected where it works constantly. The European Union has its advantages. And one of the advantages, for example, is that they have predictive planning for the procurement of weapons. This is much easier for private manufacturers to live with, since they have a general agenda from their member states regarding what weapons are needed to ensure these goals. This is a good moment. That is, there is something that Ukraine can imitate,» Mykhalko believes.
In her words, the Ukrainian arms industry can «join the European Union» faster than the entire Ukrainian state.
«If we come not just as critics, but come with a proposal on how to consider the drone industry in the context of their military capabilities and their doctrines, regulation, including the procurement system, we will add significant value to this,» added the head of the TSU.
In her opinion, if Ukraine acts as a co-author of the regulation on this issue, it will be much easier for our manufacturers to work in this regulatory field later. In this context, she advised Ukrainian private companies to study European regulations and learn to understand their legislation.
